Goa Police Gets Strict – From Helmet to No-Smoking

Golden days at Goa is almost gone. Gone are the days when we used to drink chilled beers on open beaches in goa and when breeze used to pass from our long beaded hair while on bike. Goa Police has suddenly become very strict due to lot of accidents happening in Goa lately.  Here are few rules you strictly need to follow when in Goa this time,

1.  NO Drinking On Beaches

I know this is heartbreaking but this is being followed strictly in Goa. I used to love drinking a dozen of Kings Beer on the beach, but when I was in Goa Last week I was fined Rs. 2000 for drinking in public (fine can be between 1000 to 10000). So now you cannot drink at any open place in Goa, not even on a beach. Shacks and Restaurants are the only option.

2.  No Smoking in Public

This pain can only be felt by people who love smoking. I have also seen non smokers smoking cigarettes in Goa just for Fun. But not anymore, Rs. 200 is fined if you are caught smoking in public. Beaches, Roads, Markets included.

3.  Wear Helmet

Either wear a Helmet or be ready to pay Rs. 500 everytime you are caught.  I understand it for for our own safety, but goa was known for romantic bike rides with breeze in the hair right?.

4.  Check Number plate before Hiring Car/Bike

You can come into unnecessary mess for this one.  According to Goa Traffic rules, you can drive only the taxi car and bikes. The one which has a yellow number plate. If you are driving a white number plate car/bike you can be asked to come to the court and take your license back. This court date can be on a later date even after your scheduled return. Before renting a car/bike, just look for a Taxi number vehicle.

5.  Strictly No Honking

Don’t use it to ask “Koso asa?” it is irritating for others too. In Goa  honking was tolerated until recently when police have got strict on ‘NO Honking’. They could fine you from Rs. 200 to 1000 for honking now.

For people who think it is possible to get away from anything in India by offering a bribe. Dude, don’t even try this in Goa. This will lead to another set of problem. So better avoid going against rules or just pay fines with due respect. These rules are for your safety, Lets follow it.
