Amazing Photos of Orissa Fishermen – Men at Work

Between two and four in the morning, the local fisherman of Orissa prepare their gear, takes their breakfast, seeks guidance and protection from sea devi, dresses in fishing clothes and leaves their home. They walks to their boat with their family and fellow fishers and goes to sea. Red flags on bamboo poles and Folded drift nets, which they set up in the fishing ground a day or a week earlier. Here are few photographs to show life of fishermen in the beautiful land of Orissa.

Many fishermen send their children to school and want them to hold other jobs in fields like software and teaching. They say that they do not want their children to struggle as they do and want a better life for them.

While it is a profession filled with uncertainty, also uncertain is the future of this profession.
