Be a Responsible Traveler : Here is how to Travel Plastic-free
It
is heartbreaking to see pictures of plastic island floating on the oceans. Our
ocean and land is choking with plastic waste. If we go on producing plastic
waste recklessly for a few more years, the quantity of plastic trash will
outnumber marine life. Time is running away and before it gets too late, we
must turn into a responsible traveller. Here are few ways you can follow to
keep your travel plastic-free.
1. Eat ice-cream in a cone, not in cup & spoon
1. Eat ice-cream in a cone, not in cup & spoon
Whether you choose Baskin Robbins or the more affordable brands, it would make a lot of difference to planet Earth if you ask for a cone over a plastic cup and spoon.
2. Say NO to single use plastic bags
As a responsible traveler, embrace this eco-friendly travel tip—do not accept single-use plastic bags when buying something during your vacation. Carry a carry-on bag with you.
3. Avoid using mini toiletries
Most hotels are gracious enough to provide basic toiletries to their guests free of cost. Those empty shampoo and moisturiser bottles would end up being tossed into the garbage and eventually into the land and sea! It is advisable to carry your own toiletries for a trip. And if your destination lacks a proper waste disposal facility, carry empty bottles back home to dispose them properly.
4. Follow Beach Ethics
When on a beach, be sure that any plastic thing, beach balls, mineral water bottles, packaged food etc, do not get into the sea. Plastics left behind or carelessly thrown into the ocean by humans is one of the main reasons why the seawater is swelling with plastic waste. Be a responsible beach bum as you head out for a swim.
5. Avoid Mineral water bottle
It would make a lot of difference in your efforts to ban plastic if you choose to carry a reusable water bottle instead of a plastic mineral water one. There are plenty of cool bottle designs in the market, all made of earth-friendly materials such as stainless steel, copper, brass and glass. Buy the one you fancy and use it.
6. Ban plastic packed food
Work around a strategy to carry nibbles like popcorn kernels,
peanuts, nuts etc. in stainless steel containers on your travels. This tip will
help you to avoid adding to the pool of plastic waste at a destination. Plus,
carrying food in stainless steel containers is far healthier and foolproof than
plastic or glass.
We are the system ourselves, who else can we blame?. Next time
when you buy a Rs. 5 chips pack or a Rs. 10 rail neer water, keep in mind that
you are spoiling the environment which is to be passed down to younger
generations. Small steps by each one of us can make a big step to the society.
Let's contribute our bit!
