Perfect Itinerary for Assam – Come Close to Nature


Go birding in one of the finest forest reserves in the country, go on an elephant safari, observe the mighty rhinoceros, visit one of the largest river islands in the world, and stay in charming bamboo cottages. What else can you expect from a blissful holiday?
Route : Guwahati → Nameri National Park → Kaziranga National Park → Majuli Island → Guwahati


Ideal Itinerary – 8 Days

 

Day 1 - Guwahati

Arrive at Guwahati airport and check into the hotel.
In the evening take a ferry to visit the Umananda Temple.
Overnight at a hotel in Guwahati.

Day 2 Guwahati – Nameri National Park

After breakfast commence on a 5 hour drive to Nameri.
After lunch go for a walk in the forest along with a qualified naturalist.
Nameri lies in the foothills of the Eastern Himalaya, bordering with the Pake Sanctuary of Arunachal Pradesh at its North Eastern side. Most part of the park is hilly with altitudes ranging from 80 meters along the river banks to 225 meters. Bird life is varied and abundant with nearly 400 species. It is a birder’s paradise with a sizeable population of White-winged Ducks, White-cheeked Partridge, Great, Wreathed, and Rufous-necked Hornbills, Ruddy, Blue-eared, and Oriental Dwarf Kingfishers, Yellow-bellied Flowerpecker, Red-throated Pipit, Long-billed Plover and Ibisbill.
Overnight at Nameri Eco camp.

Day 3 - Nameri – Kaziranga

In the morning go for a hike into the forest to observe the rich bird life.
After breakfast go on a rafting trip on the Nameri river.
Post lunch leave for Kaziranga.
Overnight at a resort in Kaziranga.

Day 4 - Kaziranga National Park

Post breakfast go on a safari to the Central range of the park. I
n the evening go for a safari to the Western range.
Circumscribed by the mighty Brahmaputra towards the North and East, and by the Mora Diphlu in the South, Kaziranga National Park is home to the largest population of the Great One Horned Rhinoceros in the world. Several other herbivores like the Wild Asiatic Water Buffalo, Eastern Swamp Deer, Hog Deer and Wild Boars are found in plentiful.

Day 5 - Kaziranga to Majuli

Early in the morning go off an elephant safari and later leave for Majuli island.
Overnight at a bamboo cottage in Majuli Island.

Day 6 - Majauli

Majuli, one of the largest river islands in the world, is a storehouse of art and culture. Besides culture, Majuli is also a hotspot for birders with many migratory birds favoring its wetland ecosystem. Many species like the Spot Billed Pelican, Greater and Lesser Adjutant Stork, Open Billed Stork, Purple Heron, Whistling Teal, Ruddy Shelduck can be seen in plentiful.
In the morning visit some of the Satras getting an opportunity to see the Satriya dance.
Later proceed to the mask making and pottery village.
Overnight at a Bamboo cottage in Majuli.

Day 7 - Majuli Island to Guwahati

Start early morning for the 7 hour drive to Guwahati.
Overnight at a hotel in Guwahati.

Day 8 - Guwahati

Shop in Guwahati for some beautiful souvenirs.
 Leave for Guwahati airport in time for your connecting flight.
